Jackson Shed Hunt (Outdoor Life)
On May 1st of each year in Wyoming, the Bridger-Teton National Forest--and other public lands west of the Continental Divide--opens to hunters searching for shed elk antlers.
In the twenty-four hours leading up to this opening, shed hunters line up on a road that leads from the National Elk Refuge in Jackson to the adjacent Bridger-Teton. These hunters hope to be the first off the line in order to find a trophy rack or, in some cases, a winterkill from which they can saw an entire elk head.
